Hey guys! It’s so cool that you are here.  If you are new to my blog, I’m Andrea. I’m a wife, mom of two lovely girls and an Interior Designer.

I wanted to share with you today about kids bedrooms.  I love the idea of themed rooms. Don’t you? I love when the bed looks like its in a tree or castle or those beautiful custom bedding and window treatments.  What if its not in your budget what can you do to create a room that your child would love and grow with.  They grow up so fast. I look at my kids and I’m like where did the time go?  That is why you need to cherish every moment.  My oldest daughter is taller then me and she is only 12 yrs old. lol Well, I’m not that tall anyway at only 5’2″.  Their interest change also.  They start with liking Disney characters around 4 and then at 8 years of age they like something else now they are 12 and they don’t like characters, they like colors like the galaxy or rainbow look (or llamas, yes I don’t know why she likes llamas).  What a mom to do with a budget and/or not wanting to change everything in the room.

Here are a few money saving tips.
1) I would suggest go neutral.

I love this bedroom from Start at Home Decor. Neutral palette with a pop of color.

Get  neutral color furniture like wood stains or painted (white, black or navy). That would be your base to work with. So when their style change you don’t have to buy a new bedroom set.  When they are infants they have a crib and then to a twin bed.  I would stay away from toddler beds because if your child is growing like mine is.  She needs the length.  I do like the 3 in 1 beds.  The ones that start as a crib, then turns into a day bed  and then to a full size bed (some of them). These are great to be able to give you some years until you will need to buy a twin/full bed. For both of my children I decided to go for a full size bed.  When they are older I don’t need to get anything bigger.  I’m done. HA!

2) How to throw a theme into it.

You can get your theme going with throw pillows, wall art, and accessories.

ETSY- POPPIN PICS

For example: So lets say  your child likes llamas, you can buy prints that have llamas printed. Look how cute these llamas are in this picture!   A quick trick, buy picture frames  (IKEA has inexpensive frames for a few dollars each) and then when the child theme changes you can change out the pictures in the picture frames. You can create your own prints if you are graphic savvy or there are great small businesses like on Etsy that create beautiful and inexpensive prints (like you see above).  ( this is not a affiliate. I just like sharing other small business products that I like.)

3) Pop of color

Paint is an inexpensive way to add color or a fun pattern on the accent wall. You can also, if daring and paint dots or stripes on the wall with just painters tape and paint. Removable wallpaper or wall decals are another way to decorate those walls.

In this concept-board,the bed and dresser are neutral add a little interest like the feather wall decal and fun pillows and a pop of color.   Kids rooms are so cool to design. You can really have fun with the pops of colors and decor items that could really wow a child! Have fun! Happy Styling!
