Hey Everyone! Welcome to my blog! I’m Andrea, I’m a mom of 2 lovely girls and an Interior Designer. On my blogs I like to give helpful design tips, design inspirations and DIY and share my recent projects with you.
I get a lot of questions about how to style from consoles tables, dining table centerpieces, shelving and mantels. Today I would like to give you quick tips on how to design a mantel. The fireplace is a great focal point in a room. A great area to bring in your style right on that mantel and to change out holiday seasons.
Here are the 3 key steps to follow when designing your mantel.
- Focal point- this will be your anchor to tie in all the other objects together. Mirrors are great just because it reflects light so it doesn’t seem so heavy. A large picture are also great element to choose.
- Height- our eye level is at approx. 5 feet. We need to get our eyes to look up and around. So height is great way to eliminate the negative space and give that mantel some interest. To many little things makes it look boring and cluttered.
- Filler and layer- this is were you add your medium and smaller objects. You can bring in smaller pictures, some shiny things and natural elements.
Quick tip: Work with odd number of objects, bring in texture ( for example: mirror, metal and floral) play with heights
I created some visuals to give you design inspiration.
