TOP questions most of my clients ask me
Styling 101 ( Tip #1)
You know what you like , BUT you just can’t figure out on how to pull it all together?
I hear this so many times with my clients.
That is one of the reasons on why you hire a designer. We help you to pull your room together.
I will give tips on the TOP questions most of my clients ask me and I’m going to share it with you.
My recent client just asked me just that. She knew what she liked, but was confused on pulling it all together or where things should go or how high do you hang up a picture on a wall and so on. When I walked into her space, I asked her some questions to get to know her and what does she need assistance with and how I can help her. She did go shopping before we met so she showed me what she bought. So we went through each room and each item she bought. We eliminated a few items that just didn’t work. ( she did return those items to the store). We started placement. I also gave her a shopping list on what she should get. ( like in the white glass vase in the picture I mentioned to her to get some greenery or flowers. I also gave her ideas on what type of plant and flowers to consider to put in the vase. We did discuss window treatment, custom built- in units etc. to finish up around her home.
For example: You see in the picture below a round mirror. First, That mirror was in the dining room and she was planning to put it on the wall in there. When we started moving things around we have noticed it will look better in the foyer.
Tip #1 – Don’t make furniture and accessories look like they are floating.
You need to bring your furniture pieces closer together. One great product that would do just that with your furniture layout… Area Rugs!
Make sure your rug is large enough. Each leg of your furniture should be on top of the rug. These small 5 x 7 normally Never work. they are tooo small. Area rugs are great investments because they do make the room pull together and add color and texture into the room also.
Quick Tip:when hanging artwork on the wall, higher is not better. The distance from the floor to the center of the wall art should be approx. 57″ high. Hanging above a sofa should be approx. 8″ from the top of the sofa to end of artwork.
I hope this helps and get you started in the right direction in decorating your home.
